After obtaining F.R.C.S from the U.K.(Edinburgh) in the year 1964, Padmashree Dr. S. M. Hardikar started practicing as an orthopedic surgeon in Pune in 1971, with a small nursing home of 10 beds. As a result of his clinical skills and the good doctor-patient relationship, within a period of 2 years, the situation demanded expansion of his activities. Thus, public trust was established in 1974, namely the Sushrut Medical Care & Research Society, which was based on professional expertise with social commitment.
